IBEC is celebrating its 20th anniversary, marking two decades of innovation and research in the service of health

The Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) was established on 29 December 2005. Twenty years later, it is celebrating two decades of innovation and scientific impact.

29 December marks exactly 20 years since the founding charter of the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) was signed. IBEC was established to promote bioengineering research and improve health and quality of life. Since December 2005, it has grown to become an international benchmark with over 400 employees, 26 research groups, and a network of collaborations including universities, hospitals, and companies.

Over the past two decades, IBEC has achieved many milestones of which the institution can be proud, including pioneering projects in regenerative medicine, nanomedicine and advanced therapies, as well as a constant commitment to scientific dissemination. IBEC has also integrated values that define the institution, including sustainability in research, inclusion and diversity in teams, scientific integrity, and commitment to society.

This anniversary provides an opportunity to share the institute’s vision for the future: promoting open science, strengthening knowledge transfer, and continuing to conduct research that addresses major global challenges, ranging from health to sustainability. IBEC aims to continue being a place where innovation and social responsibility go hand in hand.

2026: a year of celebration

2026 marks IBEC’s 20th anniversary: a time to reflect on what has been achieved, and to look to the future with new initiatives. We will soon share the calendar of events, campaigns and activities that will make this celebration an opportunity to strengthen the community and its commitment to society.

All of these activities will be accompanied by the commemorative logo, which will represent IBEC throughout the year.
