Introduction to the vacant position:
The Smart Nano-Bio-Devices Group is looking for a PhD student to develop his/her PhD thesis project on the development of self-propelled nanomotors for biomedical applications. The new hire will work on the imaging and in vivo applications of enzyme-nanomotors, their collective behaviour and their therapeutic efficacy in different biomedical applications, including oncology.
Main tasks and responsibilities:
- Development of nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems for biomedical applications.
- Imaging of nanomotors in vitro, ex-vivo and in vivo by different techniques including fluorescent microscopy, confocal, photoacoustic and others.
- In vivo experiments with mouse and rat models. These will include intravesical, inter-articular and intravenous injection of nanoparticles.
- Production of enzyme-powered nanomotors and study their interaction with biological tissues and matrices.
Requirements for candidates:
Essential:
- BSc and MSc in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, biotechnology, biomedical engineering, biomedicine, nanotechnology or related fields.
- High motivation for translational and multidisciplinary research.
- Experience with nanoparticles or biomedical tools.
- Previous experience in rat and mice handling, intravesical, inter-articular and intravenous injection.
- Competencies and skills: Communication, Teamwork, Proactivity, Commitment, Collegiality, Integrity, Critical and Analytical thinking.
- To be accredited with A (Animal care), B (Euthanasia), C (Experimental procedure) Functions according to RD 53/2013 within the first year.
- High level of English
Strongly preferred:
- Skilled in a widely range of delivery routes for in vivo administration, including intraperitoneal, intravenous (retro-orbital and tail vein), subcutaneous, intracerebral and others.
- Hands-on laboratory experience, particularly in tasks related to molecular biology, including gene editing.
- Strong background in drug development studies and in vivo diseases modeling implementation and optimization.
Advantageous:
- Accredited A (Animal care), B (Euthanasia), C (Experimental procedure) Functions according to RD 53/2013.
