The reSEARCH4TALENT event opens the doors of IBEC to young talent

On Friday 16 May, the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia held the eleventh reSEARCH4TALENT event, which is aimed at undergraduate and postgraduate students interested in pursuing a career in research. The event brought together over 50 people, who were able to learn about life at the institute, speak with researchers, and tour the laboratories.

On Friday 16 May, the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) held the eleventh edition of reSEARCH4TALENT, a day aimed at undergraduate and postgraduate students interested in pursuing a career in research. Taking place at the Parc Científic de Barcelona, the event brought together over 50 people, offering them an insight into life at the institute, the opportunity to talk to researchers, and a chance to visit the labs.

The day began with an institutional welcome and a presentation by Elisabeth Engel, IBEC’s principal investigator and deputy director of talent and training. She gave an overview of the institute, its scientific mission, and its commitment to training new generations of researchers. This was followed by a practical talk by the People Management Team on opportunities, internship agreements and working environments. The IBEC PhD Committee also spoke, sharing their experience and offering advice on how to approach the start of a scientific career.

After a coffee break, a talent fair was held where students could speak to research groups directly, find out about areas of work, career paths, work-life balance, and opportunities for international mobility. The day concluded with guided tours of IBEC’s laboratories, during which participants were able to see the spaces and technologies used in the institute’s research projects first-hand.

In 2024, IBEC signed over 140 internship agreements with national and international universities, thus consolidating its commitment to training and attracting young talent.

Events like reSEARCH4TALENT reinforce IBEC’s commitment to bringing science to new generations, inspiring vocations and offering real opportunities for professional growth in bioengineering.
