The first collaboration day between the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) and the Hospital del Mar Research Institute was held today at the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB). The meeting provided an opportunity to share research projects, identify areas for collaboration and formalise a strategic alliance through the signing of a collaboration agreement between IBEC, the Hospital del Mar and the Hospital del Mar Research Institute.

On Tuesday, 15 July, the first collaborative meeting between the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) and the Hospital del Mar Research Institute was held at the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB). The meeting provided an opportunity to share research projects, identify areas for joint work, and establish a strategic alliance between these leading biomedical and translational research institutions.
The day began with the formal signing of a collaboration agreement between IBEC, the Hospital del Mar and the Hospital del Mar Research Institute, marking the start of a new phase of strategic cooperation. The agreement establishes a framework to promote joint projects, shared training initiatives, and collaborative actions that bring cutting-edge research closer to the needs of the healthcare system.

This was followed by a session of institutional and scientific presentations. Josep Samitier (director of IBEC) and Joaquín Arribas (director of the Hospital del Mar Research Institute) provided an overview of their respective centres, emphasising the strengths and research priorities of each institution.
Several group leaders from IBEC and the Hospital del Mar Research Institute then presented their areas of research. Benedetta Bolognesi, Elisabeth Engel, Elena Martínez and Santiago Marco presented on behalf of IBEC, and Luis Álvarez Vallina, Clara Montagut, Ana Rovira and Pablo Villoslada presented on behalf of the hospital institute. The presentations emphasised the significant degree of complementarity between the two institutions in areas such as precision medicine, cancer, tissue regeneration, neuroscience and biomedical engineering.
Through this conference, IBEC and the Hospital del Mar Research Institute reaffirmed their commitment to promoting collaborative, interdisciplinary research with a focus on clinical impact and the development of innovative health solutions.
