IBEC obtains its third Severo Ochoa Accreditation for Excellence

This accreditation, granted by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, recognizes the relevance and impact of IBEC’s research results internationally and entails funding of 4.5 million euros over 4 years.

IBEC has obtained, for the third consecutive time, the Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence accreditation. This accreditation is granted by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities with the aim of promoting the quality of Spanish scientific research.

Today, the provisional resolution of the selected centers for the 2023 call has been published. Out of the eighteen institutions that reached the first evaluation phase, only ten have finally obtained accreditation, including IBEC. They thus obtain recognition for the relevance and impact, at the international level, of the research results obtained during the previous reference period.

Obtaining this distinction, which is valid for 4 years, implies funding with 4.5 million euros, as well as strengthening research capabilities, greater visibility, more possibilities of obtaining sponsorship, and increased success rates in other competitive funding programs, among other benefits.

Josep Samitier, director of IBEC, expresses his gratitude for the accreditation and highlights: “I am incredibly proud of our team for this achievement. Obtaining the Severo Ochoa distinction for the third time is the result of a remarkable collective effort and demonstrates our commitment to excellence in research. This recognition will drive us to continue advancing and achieving new goals on our path towards innovation and societal impact.”

IBEC carries out interdisciplinary research of excellence at the frontier of engineering and life sciences to generate new knowledge by integrating fields such as nanomedicine, biophysics, biotechnology, tissue engineering, and information technology applications in the health sector.

This is the twelfth edition of the Severo Ochoa awards. With this accreditation, IBEC is recognized as one of the most important research centers in Spain, along with 32 other organizations in the country.
