Fiona Watt, member of IBEC’s ISC, appointed as EMBO Director

Fiona Watt, Director of the Centre for Stem Cells & Regenerative Medicine at King’s College London, and member of IBEC´s International Scientific Committee (ISC), has been appointed as new Director of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO). The British cell biologist will take up the appointment in early 2022.

Nuria Montserrat joins EMBO

Nuria Montserrat has been selected to join EMBO, a prestigious network that brings together some of the most brilliant researchers in life sciences in the world. This year only 30 scientists have been selected among 216 candidates. The selected scientists will join the existing network of 73 current and 384 former members of the program.

Pere Roca-Cusachs joins the European elite club in biology

Pere Roca-Cusachs, group leader at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) and associate professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Barcelona (UB), has been chosen to join the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) , a prestigious network that brings together some of the most brilliant researchers in the world.

Roca-Cusachs is a pioneer in Europe in the mechanobiology field and in the study of how physical forces affect diseases such as cancer.

IBEC’s first EMBO Young Investigator

Pere RocaIBEC junior group leader and UB assistant professor Pere Roca-Cusachs has been accepted into the prestigious EMBO Young Investigator Programme.

EMBO, the European Molecular Biology Organization, chooses some of the best young group leaders in Europe through a highly competitive annual selection. Pere presented his research plan for the next five years to an international panel in Heidelberg at the beginning of October.

“I’m really delighted to have been accepted,” says Pere, who is the first ever IBEC researcher to be selected for the programme, and the only one from Spain this year.
