IBEC contributes to multi-disciplinary efforts to understand the brain and improve neurological healthcare
The Group of Pau Gorostiza at IBEC participates in the “Emerging Cluster of the Human Brain! (CECH) RIS3CAT Initiative, in which research institutes and industry work together to achieve an integrative and multi-level understanding of the human brain.
PhD Position in the Synthetic Morphogenesis group (IBEC, TU/e)

Application Deadline: 15/12/2020
Ref: PH- VC
The Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) in collaboration with the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e, Eindhoven – Netherlands) are seeing an ambitious PhD Candidate to investigate the morphogenesis of living tissues from the computational perspective. The successful candidate will carry out computational research with the Synthetic Morphogenesis group under the supervision of Dr Vito Conte across both institutions at the interface between Biology, Physics, Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Sciences. This multidisciplinary doctoral research will be carried out in collaboration with Dr Jose Muñoz at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC, Barcelona – Spain) and will be part of greater efforts aiming at establishing a new Platform for the Live-Quantification of Cell and Tissue Mechanics across the IBEC and the TU/e.
The Edison of medicine visits IBEC
The Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) invites Robert Langer, and other renowned international speakers, to its annual symposium to talk about how bioengineering can shape the future of precision medicine. Langer, Professor of the Technological Institute of Massachusetts (MIT), and Director of its biomedical engineering laboratory, is considered the father of intelligent drugs delivery, the most cited engineer in the world but, especially, a global pioneer with over thousand patents and promoter of dozens of companies with great projection, which has earned him the nickname of “The Edison of Medicine”.
Electric forces to characterize future biocompatible organic electronic devices
A joint collaboration between the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB) and The University of Manchester has succeeded in mapping the electrical properties of organic biosensor/electrolyte interfaces at the nanoscale by measuring local electric forces. Electronic biosensors based on organic materials could make soon a reality the dream of low-cost, disposable, flexible and biocompatible electronic devices for the interaction with biological systems .
Predoctoral Researcher at the Nanoprobes & Nanoswitches Research Group

Application Deadline: 20/10/2021
Ref: PhD-PG
The nanoprobes group at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) is looking for a Predoctoral Researcher to develop synthetic photochromic compounds for the manipulation of ion channels and receptors. The contract will be within the framework of ongoing projects of the laboratory, whose objectives include both fundamental investigation of neuronal circuits and novel therapeutic developments for sensory restoration, and against excitatory/inhibitory disbalances in the central nervous system such as epilepsy.
