IBEC Drives Dialogue on Innovations in Personalized Medicine and Emerging Therapies at Barcelona Health Innovation Week

Today, on February 14, IBEC organized the roundtable “Challenges in Innovation in Personalized Medicine and Emerging Therapies.” The event is part of Barcelona Health Innovation Week, organized by Biocat. It fostered a dialogue where experts from diverse fields shared their perspectives on identifying opportunities to propel the utilization of new technologies in the healthcare sector.

Nanomedicine experts gather on World Cancer Nanoday

Once again, experts in nanomedicine from various fields gathered in Barcelona on the occasion of World Cancer Day. The meeting provided an opportunity to showcase the latest innovations in nanomedicine for combating cancer, covering topics such as early diagnosis, controlled drug release, and radiotherapy employing nanoparticles.

New Methodology for Studying Organic Transistors in Operation with Applications in Bioelectronics

A study led by IBEC has successfully mapped the local electrical potential along the structure of organic transistors used in bioelectronics, enabling a detailed assessment of bottlenecks in charge transport. The goal of this study is to deepen the understanding of the properties of charge transport in materials used in organic electronics when in contact with liquid media, aiming to enhance their applications in biosensors or bioelectrical recordings.

IBEC is strengthened by the addition of three new research groups in advanced and emerging therapies

IBEC kicks off 2024 with the incorporation of three new research groups led by Manuel Salmerón Sánchez, Zaida Álvarez Pinto, and Xavier Rovira Clavé. With these additions, IBEC strengthens its position in the field of advanced and emerging therapies.

Organoids to study ataxia telangiectasia

Núria Montserrat Pulido, principal investigator at IBEC, will lead a project to study Ataxia telangiectasia thanks to funding from AEFAT, the Spanish ataxia-telangiectasia family association. The idea of the project is to obtain cells with the patient mutations, develop organoids, explore the possibility of gene editing processes for different mutations and create a platform for drug testing.

Bladder tumours reduced by 90% using nanorobots

The research, which was conducted on mice, demonstrates how these tiny nanomachines are propelled by urea present in urine and precisely target the tumour, attacking it with a radioisotope carried on their surface. Led by the IBEC and CIC biomaGUNE, the study opens the door to new, more efficient treatments for bladder cancer.

BIST Forum, a meeting to highlight the value of frontier research

The BIST Forum has discussed how excellent science enhances the development of society and economic growth. The event was attended by the President of the Catalan Government, the Mayor of Barcelona, the heads of the highest economic institutions and the rectors of the main universities. At the event, the new BIST IGNITE projects for multidisciplinary research were announced, three of which have the participation of IBEC.

The interdisciplinarity of IBEC showcased in the opinion section of Nature Physics

Teresa Sanchis and Xavier Trepat, members of IBEC, have authored opinion pieces in the ‘World View’ section of Nature Physics. Both articles underscore IBEC’s dedication to scientific excellence, the promotion of diversity, and the cultivation of an environment conducive to collaboration. They also highlight the relevant role of IBEC at the international level in multidisciplinary research.
