INTROPY: A new approach to cancer therapy by inhibiting mechanotransduction

IBEC senior researcher Pere Roca-Cusachs has been awarded an ERC Proof of Concept Grant. This is a prestigious grant awarded by the European Research Council to explore the commercial and societal potential of research projects carried out at European institutions. Roca-Cusachs’ project, INTROPY, focuses on the inhibition of mechanotransduction as a potential therapy against cancer or fibrosis.

IBEC scientist César Rodriguez-Emmenegger awarded prestigious ERC Consolidator Grant

IBEC’s Principal Investigator César Rodriguez-Emmenegger has been awarded an ERC Consolidator Grant. This prestigious European funding supports scientists in the consolidation phase of their research teams, allowing them to pursue innovative scientific ideas. The €2 million over five years will allow Rodriguez-Emmenegger and his team to develop Phagocytic Synthetic Cells (PSCs) to fight antibiotic-resistant pathogens.

Three IBEC researchers selected in the CaixaResearch 2024 call to lead health research projects

IBEC researchers Benedetta Bolognesi, Xavier Fernàndez Busquets and Xavier Trepat have been selected in the CaixaResearch 2024 call to lead their own research projects. The grants will provide financial support for the scientists to carry out their research in key areas such as cancer, malaria and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

The IBEC senior researchers were two of the winners of the fourth edition of the call for applications. Through this initiative, BIST recognises and supports scientist mothers working to reach a leading position and advance the research in their fields.

Pere Roca-Cusachs receives ICREA Acadèmia program distinction for the second time

IBEC researcher Pere Roca-Cusachs has been awarded the “ICREA Academia” distinction by the Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies (ICREA). The leader of IBEC’s Cellular and Molecular Mechanobiology group received the award in the Life & Medical Sciences category.
